Any hardcore Beatles fan knows that Liverpool is the ultimate pilgrimage.
I have to be honest: I am not the biggest Beatles fan. But, the husband happens to be the biggest Liverpool FC fan.
So a few months ago, a trip to Liverpool was scheduled not to pay tribute to the world’s most awesome foursome, but to catch a game between Liverpool FC and Manchester United. The hard-to-catch game was a wedding gift from me.
But, just like their songs, The Beatles have a way of entering your consciousness even when you don’t really ask for it. All over Liverpool were Beatles, Beatles, Beatles.
In this cozy small town is where you’ll feel the boys most alive (but I’m sure you’ll disagree because they are most alive in your heart and soul??)
Since Liverpool is the birthplace of Beatlemania, what better way to get to know the group than by getting to know their and their song’s origins.
So we boarded the Magical Mystery Bus and went on a Beatles-tastic ride.
The bus carries you around the city taking you to the boys’ homes one by one. Yup, you get to stand in front of each one, imagining what George was doing upstairs or what song John was composing by his window.
George Harrison’s residence when he was still a young lad
John Lennon’s home, in an upscale part of Liverpool. He lived near Paul McCartney.
Paul’s abode just a few blocks away from John’s.
And the songs you so love? Well, they are a tribute to Liverpool and each title is a spot in the city — which you get to experience for yourself too. Amazing.
Eleanor Rigby is buried here.
Strawberry fields forever.
Indeed, it was a magical day, with me craving for more Beatles trivia!
Oh well. Until my next return to Liverpool, their songs will do.
